Toastmasters runs the same scorecard for every club in the world. Ten goals a year, counted from July to June, and an award at the end depending on how many you met.
The club has met at least seven of the ten in nineteen of the twenty-one years on record. That is the boring part. The interesting part is the two years it did not, and what the membership column does either side of them.
2011–12. Six goals met, no award, and membership at the end of the year down to ten. That is the lowest figure in the whole record, and the year before it the club had twenty-one members. Whatever happened, the recovery was immediate: nine goals the following year and back to sixteen members.
2019–20. One goal met out of ten. The club kept meeting, and membership actually finished the year higher than it started, but almost nothing else could be counted.
2015 to 2018 is the other end of it. Membership went 28, 55, 59, then fell back to 37, while the club hit all ten goals four years running. Growing that fast and keeping the score perfect at the same time is unusual.
