Meeting #1014

The meaning of life

DateTuesday, 17 March 2026

No speeches, two big questions

This one ran without prepared speeches. Earlier drafts of the agenda had speaker slots, but by the day before they were gone, replaced by two Table Topics sessions with a master each and a question apiece.

The first: if you knew you had one month left to live. The second: what is the best investment in life? The second question outlasted the meeting. One of the masters wrote afterwards that tonight had been fun, and next time they should keep arguing over whether money matters more than time or freedom, and the round-table discussion was still unfinished when the room had to be vacated.

One piece of feedback for next time, from a member who had been on her feet all evening: could the discussion happen sitting down next time?

Behind the scenes

The venue moved to the second-floor classroom at the last minute because the building’s general manager was using the usual room. Someone arrived asking to see the agenda in the group chat, wanting to know what role they’d been assigned. The answer: no need to look, just go straight up, the drinks were already poured.
