Prepared speeches

Three speeches, and the one people kept talking about was Camellia’s, about finding peace while walking in a Chaoshan deity procession (Pathway 1.3). The verdict that night was that her speech had been excellent. Her own aim was simpler than the Pathways objective: she just wanted to share some folk culture with everyone. The best response came the next morning from someone who grew up in that culture and still could not follow the dialect, who said she was Chaoshan herself and couldn’t understand a word, but the imagery had come through vividly. She followed up with a film recommendation on the same theme, “A Love Letter to Grandma.”

Before the break

There was latte at the venue. The member who signed up for TME did so in the spirit of the meeting’s theme, saying she’d been provoked into it and needed to grab a role to let off steam.

This was the last meeting before the May holiday. The sign-off, at 21:38: “see u guys after holidays.. have fun all.” The club would not meet again for three weeks — the May sign-up chain put the next meeting on 12 May with an officer election attached, but that election was moved to Sunday 10 May and the Tuesday slot was dropped, so the numbering resumed at the 1022nd on 19 May.
