Gao Kao
This review of SZTM's 493rd meeting recounts a table topic round in which members spoke from a set of Gaokao-themed photos instead of a single assigned topic, with Cherry, Celia, Strong, Laila, Cici, Zach, Crystal and Eric Liu each taking a picture. Four prepared speeches followed, from Zach Yang on painting a wall, Michael Liu on approaching a girl, Danielle Ouyang on a folk tale, and Kody Sa on knitting as a metaphor for life, with evaluations, a guest introduction and a group photo closing the meeting.
The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:
‘Your body, is a knitting product of your parents DNA.’…‘We can simplify everything as 1 & 0, that’s why computer is so powerful, because it is based on 1 &0.’
Nick Gong- a perfect partner for Michael Liu. When Michael took the speech, Nick would be the evaluator. When Nick took the speech, Michael would be the evaluator. They just look like ’twins’ brother in some aspects.

Jun 7 has become a big day in China as college entrance examination falls on that day.
It isn’t only a stressful time for students, but also a time of the year to see many parents praying and entire communites celebrating for this special day.
At this meeting Atry will bring us the table topic, Gaokao, please come and share with us your opinion.

When I moved to a new house, I always have strong willing to decorate my new place.
But at the end I only did some changes for my furniture because I was not good at decorating.
If you are interested in how to paint a wall, then you should come to hear what Zach has to say.

When we call someone a slow person, it means she/he does everything very slowly and sometimes it makes people irritable.
However, Michael will provide laughable stories about a slow person, I’m curious at what he will say…

Atry was not tall, but she was full of strength and imagination for life.
This time Atry brought a memorable table topic - Gaokao.
Instead of giving the topic directly, she showed several pictures related to Gaokao to the audiences.
Speakers can choose the topic by themselves according to the picture. Let’s see who get the chance to speak.

When we did too many things for care, it would create the pressure.
If you wanted your child to get good performance, parents, please speak less and stand by their side with them.
❷ Celia, she had several table topics before joining our club. Her topic was
❸ Strong, our humorous ex-president, shared his experience during senior high 3-6. He said ’ Your experience is a gift of your life.’
❹ Laila, It doesn’t matter whether you graduated from famous college.
It depended on your persistence and talent, and it depended on what you can get from school and what you achieved in your own way.
❺ Cici, our lovely guest, was very confident and delivered her 3rd times table topic. Good job.
❻ Zach, with charming accent, thought we had alternative choices instead of Gaokao only.
Life gave us lot of choices and answers, and we do not just focus on Gaokao.
❼ Crystal, a beautiful & sweet English teacher, would try again if failed on the college entrance examination.
❽ Eric Liu, our table topic king, thought Gaokao was not the single log bridge.
Prepared Speech
㈠ Zach Yang: If you want to paint a wall, you have to do several things as below:a. Get a good design (but someone said the first step was to get a house, haha…), then choose the suitable colorb. Get to the reality / texturec. Choose the paintd. Make a good preparatione. Paint your wall by yourself and enjoy it
㈡Michael Liu: He, who used to be a timid person, shared his experience of approaching to a beautiful girl. His story made everyone laugh and happy.
㈢ Danielle Ouyang told us the folk tale about the fisherman and the genius.
She presented us with some inspiration from this tale: life was most important, to be alive, intelligent and grateful, and then you would live freely.
㈣ Kody Sa: he got something from knitting and shared with all of us, he said:
-‘Your body, is a knitting product of your parents DNA.’
-‘When you make a speech, your words, like the dots, your thoughts like the line of thread, which go through all the words, made your ideas.
If we’re knitting our own ideas at the same time, we influence each other. We are all together, knitting a bigger one, which is our culture.’

Evaluations:
Table topic evaluation:Dudu Tang - she always challenged herself as different roles and showed her confidence on the stage.
Individual evaluation:Michelle Yang – a warm sister, she evaluated Zach’s CC2 and encouraged Zach to share his feeling when he finished painting on a wall.
Cherry Zhang- evaluator for Danielle. She suggested us to add some appropriate body language, vocal variety and facial expression during your speech which would be easier for audiences to understand.
Nick Gong- a perfect partner for Michael Liu. When Michael took the speech, Nick would be the evaluator. When Nick took the speech, Michael would be the evaluator. They just look like ‘twins’ brother in some aspects.
Laila Tungcub-a super speaker from Imagine club evaluated our super grandpa. Uncle Eric introduced an interesting game as usual, who showed us two pictures (look for the words & vegetable) and also brought the gifts for the winner. (I like this game as it is good for our observation.)Our new president Carol would take charge of the opening & closing speech for the meeting from now on. Everyone had the struggling experiences in our life, and Carol encouraged us to enjoy the TM journey and make more practices. Our IPVPM & VIP TME Candy Lei, was very good at enlivening the meeting. We all enjoyed her humorous style as TME.Bell Tang: first time as Timer (Strong said his name matched with the reality as he got the bell.)Wheat: a beautiful lady for Ah-counter rules / Nina Lin: a thoughtful lady for a clear & strict Ah-counter report.
Lily Zhou: provided the positive word ‘enthusiastic’ and reminded us the shining sentences during the meeting.
