Meeting #506

Just do it

DateTuesday, 2 August 2016

Postponed to Thursday because of typhoon Nida, the 506th meeting opened with an icebreaker game led by Nina Lin and remarks from president Carol Ban. Eric Liu hosted table topics on the theme "Just Do It," inviting six speakers to discuss SZTM's core values of service, integrity, excellence, support, leadership and respect. Four members gave prepared speeches, including Rania Chen on independence and Dudu Tang on her childhood dream of becoming a policewoman, before the meeting closed with a farewell to the outgoing secretary and treasurer.

506th Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

If I were asked a question to make my choice – between Boyfriend and Toastmaster on every Tuesday night, for sure Toastmaster is my answer!

Dudu Tang- A realistic dream chaser. In her speech, she told us her childhood and grew-up stories– Live in the city and Be a Policewoman, which are very touching and persuasive.

Prepared Speech Session:

Rania Chen: CC1

Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination.

These give us the ultimate human freedom… The power to choose, to respond, to change.

What is Rania's point of view?
Lynn Lei: CC1

Life is indeed colourful. We can feel in the pink one day, with our bank balances comfortably in the black, and the grass seemingly no greener on the other side of the fence. Then out of the blue, something tiresome happens that makes us see red, turn ashen white, even purple with rage. Maybe controlling our varying emotions is just ‘colour management’ by another name. Which lifestyle will be Lynn’s favorite?

Dudu Tang: CC5

I’m a dreamer. I have to dream and reach for the stars, and if I miss a star then I grab a handful of clouds.

What is Dudu's dream?
Samantha Shen: CC6

Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.

What kinds of trip made Samantha unforgettable?

506thMeeting ReviewJust do itIf I were asked a question to make my choice – between Boyfriend and Toastmaster on every Tuesday night, for sure Toastmaster is my answer!

Although our general meeting was postponed till Thursday due to Nida typhoon, it couldn’t stop my profound admiration and appreciation to this meeting

- What a fantastic & fabulous Thursday!

Our next-door and energetic girl Nina Lin kicked off the meeting by an amusing game – egg, chicken, dragon and human beings.

With a great deal of laughters and pleasure, our fairy lady and professional photographer Ella Pengsparked our eyes as always and told us the meeting rules very clearly & audibly.

Of course, it is unforgettable memory that our beautiful and wise president Carol Ban made opening remarks and taught us the skillful tips –“ Good listening makes a good speaker”.

Afterwards, our Miss Charming TME Demi Huangbroadcasted the start of meeting and referred the most mediocre but meaningful masters to us – they were “the master of time”(timer: Sunny Wang), “the master of unnecessary words” (ah-counter: Louis Liu) & “the master of grammar”(grammarian: Maxwell). They gave definite and unique values to all speakers in many ways of improvement. Love them and fantastic job!

Over time, it came to our entertaining part to discover and measure our inside impromptu speaking sills – TABEL TOPIC SECTION. It was host by the King of Table Topic – Brother Eric Liu.

Apparently, his theme “Just Do It” was very “VOGUE”. The focus on his theme was in an effort to make sure everyone understand more about the KEY and CORE values of SZTM. To some extent, he was a very gentle but powerful salesman to promote our club.

Total 6 speakers were invited to share their opinions about Service, Integrity, Excellence, Support, Leadership and Respect. In my opinion, this theme was designed to not only remind us why we chose and joined SZTM, but also help show a brand new impression for all guests who might be inspired their desires to become an official member.

Moving forward, another fantastic part was Prepared Speech Section.

Rania Chen-

A brave and brilliant girl, who talked about her independent story and set up a wonderful model for us to confront with difficulties and be the best of ourselves.Lynn Lei-

a cute girl with “Hello Kitty” style. Her view was to include different lifestyles in our daily life and reflect her lust for change.Dudu Tang-

A realistic dream chaser. In her speech, she told us her childhood and grew-up stories– Live in the city and Be a Policewoman, which are very touching and persuasive.

She encouraged us to keep working and dreaming, maybe one day it will come true.Samantha Shen-

An elegant and gentle girl, who shared us a vivid story to demonstrate the importance of love, friendship and family to everyone.

To fulfill the goal of improvement, we can’t ignore our fruitful part – Evaluation.

TTE Hosea is our guest from Care Club. His evaluation represented another view to deliver our speeces and some valuable points to make progress in many aspects.

IE Candy Yang, Jimmy, Danielle and Yoki made their evaluation respectively, with many similar encouragements to keep speakers do their speeches more and practice more.

GE IPPP Michael Liu, he gave a confident toast to all speakers tonight and shared on a broader scale by more speaking.

Many things change every second in this unexpectable world, but life goes on anyway. Tonight we confronted with surprising and delightful exchange of new secretary and treasure.

Who are the best speakers?

How many guests we had?
Happy moments
