The 525th meeting of Shenzhen Toastmasters Club took place on November 1, 2016, with table topics on the theme 'Try Your Best' chosen by Sunny Wang. 525th Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

She talked about her overseas life experience in the past years and how she struggled to challenge her new decision. It’s admirable for her courage to re-shape a new herself

Trust me, if you work much harder than most people and at the same time you know the correct way to do it, you will be good at whatever you are doing.

David had completed his CC7 speech while I was still hesitating to finish my CC4 speech even though I was senior in our club.

Theme: Try your best

Prepared Speech1Ivy Du-CC1-Be true to yourself

The main character in “Breaking Bad”, who said he made drugs for supporting his family, finally was true to himself and admitted he did that for the sense of achievement.

Everyone has a true himself in his heart, but not everyone can be true to himself. Sometimes, it can be cruel and deformed.

Be true to yourself, how? Ivy will tell you.

2Gary Jiang-CC1-Jobs

When I was a child, my dream job was to be a teacher. But now I’m an office lady. Jobs changed along with our life. There’re a lot of jobs in the world, how to choose the one that fit you the most?

Maybe Gary will share us some experiences about it.

3David Xing–CC7–No pesistence, no success

Daily good, not afraid of thousands of miles; often do, not afraid of doing things. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. As long as the continuous efforts, unremitting struggle, everything can be conquered.

What will David tell us this Tuesday?

4Jeremy Feng(Pro)-Too small

Being too small, you will be lack of the strength and power to achieve you goal or your dream. However, sometimes no dreamer is too small. Even a small star shines in the darkness.

It can be positive or negative. How Jeremy will expain it to us?

(I heard this speech was about the coming contest, it must be wonderful. Looking forward to it~)

Here’s our agenda~

Don’t you remember 525th meeting? Don’t you imagine what an interesting and impressive meeting can be filled with? Is your brain and mind empty and blank? Do you feel regretful that you couldn’t recall those awesome minutes? Let me take this chance to give a brief meeting for you.

Fantabulous Facilitators

Regarding a fabulous meeting, in my perspective, I would always appreciate those facilitators who worked behind the scene first. Without their dedication to tiny roles that might not look very outstanding,, like Timer, Ah-counter, Grammarian, GST…, our meeting couldn’t be successfully adjourned, They did guarantee an extremely important job for the whole meeting. Let me express my sincere thanks to following persons.

Table TopicTry Your Best

If you want to know the core of club meeting, there is no doubt that it is table topic section, which decides the theme of that night. On 525th meeting, our theme was “Try Your Best”, a very easy and enthusiastic topic, which was selected by a breezy and clever girl Sunny Wang. She used intelligent skills to communicate with all the audiences, who could propose his/her question to the table topic speaker and afterwards the speaker had to deliver an impromptu speech according to the question. Total 6 speakers were involved this speech. If you just checked out below photos, could you guess who got the best table topic speaker?

Yes, it’s our psychologist brother Eric, whose topic was “How did you try your best on work?” It seemed like a simple question but personally I think it’s difficult to answer. Surprisingly he did a good job and I liked his speech, especially the golden sentence he mentioned “Even though your skills are not perfect, just work hard and put your heart into it.”(有时候世事就是这样,道理我们都懂,只是难以过好一生,just try our best)

Another my favorite speaker was guest Vivian. She talked about her overseas life experience in the past years and how she struggled to challenge her new decision. It’s admirable for her courage to re-shape a new herself and discover the meaning of life. We should believe that when you smile to the world, the world would always smile back to you.

After amusing table topic, it came to prepared speech, which included 4 speakers.

Prepared SpeechSpeaker one - Ivy Du started her CC1 speech and discovered her inside speech skills. Her topic “Be true to yourself ”was encouraging. Now I can’t wait to hear her next speech.

Speaker two - Gary Jiang was an English teacher. I liked his pronunciation and the way he delivered speech. In his speech, he talked about three different jobs - scientist, butcher and English teacher. We’re totally moved by his story and how he was attracted by English and learned English so well. Hereby I wanted to quote a sentence from his speech “Trust me, if you work much harder than most people and at the same time you know the correct way to do it, you will be good at whatever you are doing. ”

Speaker three - Uncle David Xing. In my opinion, to some extent David truly represented the spirit of “No persistence, no success”, like his speech title. He was also new to our club, but when I looked back on his speech path, I felt embarrassed for myself because David had completed his CC7 speech while I was still hesitating to finish my CC4 speech even though I was senior in our club. In this speech, again David shared a good story and recommended a great book , which gave him courage, confidence as well as learning methods. For your information, the following seven habits I got from his speech. Be proactive; Begin with the end in mind; Put the first things first; Think win-win; Seek first to understand, then to be understood; Synthesize; Sharpen the saw.

Speak four - Jeremy Feng who came from Pro club and shared his successful contest speech “Too small”. It’s an entertaining speech and all the audiences were fully engaged in his vivid presentation. I also wanted to quote a sentence from his speech “It’s exactly who you are that matters”.

Evaluation Section

Besides table topic and prepared speech, we also have following evaluators who did offer encouraging words and constructive suggestions to all speakers. With their BIG efforts, our speakers could find out their merits and shortcomings. How marvelous they are!

Birthday Celebration

Furthermore, our officer team elaborately arranged birthday celebration for our members who gave birth in Oct and Nov. It’s a small move but impressed our members and guests to make them feel the unity and love of our club.

New Member Induction

Last but not least, we also had our new member induction part, which was held by our ex-VPM Candy Lei. Wish all new members can remember why they wanted to join this club and can have a bright future in our club.
