This meeting review takes the form of an interview with TME Candy Yang, reflecting on the 535th meeting's theme of 'Speech Marathon.' Three visiting Toastmasters joined that night: Doris Wang and Zing Chen from UPS Club and Raymond Leung from HK NETM Club, who ran a workshop called 'Three Reasons to Love Hong Kong Again.' Candy singled out Michael Chen's speech '4 Ways to Kill Your Dreams' as her favorite of the evening.

It wasn’t long before Candy Yang joined Shenzhen Toastmasters. Just like most of members, she simply wanted to improve her English and practice public speaking skills. This Tue she was taking the role of TME on 535th meeting. Now I’d like to invite her to share her own feelings of that night.

Tell us about the special part of this meeting.”

On that night we had three special friends – two ladies Zing Chen and Doris Wang from UPS Club and one gentleman Raymond Leung from HK NETM Club.

Specifically, Doris shared her advanced speech with us; Zing did one evaluation for Penney Peng (speech title: Less is More)as well as closing remarks; while Raymond did a workshop – Three reasons to love HONGKONG again.

Tell us about performance of Facilitators”

I was always impressed by our fantastic facilitators who took small roles which were quite important and essential to our club. Without them the meeting won’t go on smoothly.

Although someone might said they were just small potatoes, in my eyes they were super heroes in Toastmasters.

Here are the photos of all facilitators for your information.

As the theme of 535th meeting was speech marathon, any part/speech of the meeting that interests you in particular?”

Yes, I liked the speech from Michael Chen the most. He talked about <4 Ways to Kill Your Dreams>, which was very interesting and unique.

It’s not surprising that people like to dig out how to achieve their dreams. But we never stop to figure out what drives our dream a failure. In Michael’s speech, I believed most of members and guest found the answer.

The 4 ways were listed as below:
1. Believe in overnight success;

2. Believe someone else has the answers for you;

3. Believe the fault is someone else’s;

4. Believe that the only thing that matters is the dream itself.

Thanks to Michael’s speech, now I feel confident in myself and know how to avoid those 4 ways so as to make my dream come true as early as possible.

Of course there were other amazing speeches and impressive workshop. The speakers are listed as below…

Tell us about evaluation”

I was very weak on speech telling, not mentioning evaluation. In this part, our GE Koby Sa shared a funny and meaningful evaluation.

He noticed the very unique part of each speaker and pointed out the good part and offered constructive suggestion.

Also, I appreciated the great performance from below IE…

What motivated you to stay in Toastmasters?”

In conclusion, it’s very thankful to grant me the opportunity for growth as speaker and future leader in Toastmasters which encourages me to explore more about myself.

If you like speech, come to Toastmasters for listening; if you like speaking, come to join us as a member.

Both opportunity and challenges pose in Toastmasters. Don’t wait, just try.
