541st Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

The 541st Demo Meeting took place in PKU hospital of Shenzhen on December 23d.

Most of our friends and guests this time were distinguished doctors, nurses and other staff in the hospital and we also had Michael Lee, a district club growth director gave us a brief introduction of Toastmasters, namely, the history, the mission and the projects, which is very useful and meaningful. It also made our meeting more formal and professional than usual.

Table Topic

Among all the sessions of a meeting, I would say table topic is most challenging because it requires the speaker to think and organize your speech within seconds. The key word of the table topic was “wonderful life”. We had Jane, Sean, Vivi, William, Tiffany and Kevin presented their amazing speeches.

Prepared Speech

Jane Yang did her ice-breaker speech and it fundamentally let us know who she was and what she had been through, we believed that she was a diligent and tough girl with a brilliant future.

Gary Jiang, a professional teacher was giving us the idea of “self improvement”, he emphasized that we should seek for professional help with the examples given from his teaching career for TOEFL and SAT.

Michael Liu delivered a speech on Chinese food, sharing the experience he had with his Indian friends and the time he spent in India. He specifically mentioned about the awkward question “Do you Chinese eat ants?” and the time he thought he had the tails of oxen but turned out to be 牛鞭. It was full of laughers and fun.

Evaluation

Michelle Yang, Vivi Xie, Danielle Ouyang and Carol Ban evaluated speakers’ speeches respectively and left their thoughtful and encouraging comments and advices. This was how our friendship was built and how the objective of Toastmaster was achieved.

Furthermore, Yoki Zhang did her first general evaluation but she just seemed to be so talented and good at it. I believe all of us there have witnessed the passion, courtesy and wisdom of our evaluators.
