556th Meeting
Eddie Yan led a workshop titled 'approach and mindset' (套路与思路) ahead of the club's spring speech contest, walking members through impromptu speech scenarios such as interviews, persuasion, sales pitches and a debate over whether an unattractive older man could be called handsome. Two rounds of table topics followed, hosted by Karry Zhan and Sean Gao and evaluated by Michael Liu and Koby Sa respectively.
The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

The scenario that most impressed me was the debate for the subject: Shall call the old and ugly man as “靓仔”? –真真难为了正方的辨论者 Michael Liu.

Warm up game: it was a simple but very interesting game
Workshop 套路与思路
The first best part of the meeting: Our friend, Toastmaster’s top-notch member, Eddie Yan brought his workshop: 套路与思路. That was really a significant workshop before our spring speech contest.
Last year Eddie also did a workshop about how to deliver impromptu speech before contest and he taught us how to use story to deliver an impromptu speech.
This time he not only told us the 套路 for speech but also set several scenarios for us to practice.
Very creative and interesting scenarios: interview, persuasion, selling a product, debate… The scenario that most impressed me was the debate for the subject: Shall call the old and ugly man as “靓仔”? –真真难为了正方的辨论者 Michael Liu.
For explaining to us clearly about his 7 套路, he used fog and haze as an example. This time 我又再次见识了他的功力。No one can tell one advantage for fog and haze, but he said everyone would be seen as a beautiful girl or handsome guy in fog and haze.

After listened Eddie’s workshop, we put into practice at once with two table topic.
The first run was held by Karry Zhan, she prepared six red pockets with one topic about Chinese New Year in each one.
Two of red pockets had a surprising gift in it and our gesture queen Lilian got one. The speakers talked about their special ceremony, famous thing, unforgettable moment, New Year’s resolution and opinion about the value of red pocket.
Michael Liu evaluated for this run, he gave many useful suggestions to the speakers.

The second run was held by our handsome talking machine – Sean Gao.
Koby Sa was the evaluator for this run. I like his evaluation since his evaluation is full of philosophy and meanings:
Summary
We have many memories, feeling and ideas. We can tell our memories and ideas verbally, but the feeling belong to yourself, the feeling is in your heart and it is hard for others to catch your feeling.
Subjective ideal is easy to talk, but it’s hard to persuade.
Practice table topic in your daily life.
