Meeting #586

586th Meeting

DateTuesday, 22 August 2017

Typhoon Hato was approaching, but 21 members and four guests still turned out for SZTM's 586th meeting on 22 August 2017. VPE Sharon Wu ran a warm-up game with body language guessing, and prepared speeches from Sunny Tan, David King, Allen Peng and Michelle Yang covered themes from staying true to yourself to why people feel lonely despite being connected. Michelle Yang won the best prepared speech award for her talk on doing more to earn more.

586th Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

And Yoki Zhang shared whether she believed that two people sleeping together could share a same dream and why.

Wow, the 586th meeting, what a dreamlike toastmaster meeting even though the typhoon Hato would be coming! There were still 21 members and 4 guests showing up on 22nd Aug,2017.

Warm-up Session

Sharon Wu, our club’s VPE, passionately warmed up the atmosphere through a fancy game: one team used body language to express something, another team guessed what the message was. Very interesting!

Our fair lady, Amanda Xiong, took the role of SAA with her mellifluous and charming smile. A charmingly smiling SAA must ensure half a successful routine meeting. Won’t you agree with that?

Table Topic Session

The table topic was about dreams. Hosted by the table topic toastmaster Joan, Nathan Zhang shared one of his beautiful dreams. Sandy Zhang shared her most dramatic dream. Guest Lucida shared what skills she got in her dreams. Dylan Guo shared how she could control her dreams. Guest Wilson shared what happened and whether he had ever had the similar experience in a comic. And Yoki Zhang shared whether she believed that two people sleeping together could share a same dream and why. Fantabulous!

Prepared Specch Session

Afterwards Sunny Tan, David King, Allen Peng and Michelle Yang delivered their prepared speeches respectively. As Sunny Tan said, try to be yourself because the others have been themselves. We always play poker, but do we really know the explanation and implications about poker? In our ordinary life, we think we like some things most, such as playing poker games. Maybe we always take them for granted. David king really made us learn something. Allen Peng talked about why people get connection but still lonely. Michelle Yang told us how to do more to earn more. Do more, earn more! Wonderful! Michelle Yang won the best prepared speech award.

Acknowledgement Part

Due diligence of the voluntary proactive facilitators and participators means another half of a successful routine meeting. Also sincerely appreciate their hard work of Candy Yang, Coco Zhou, Sharon Woo, Sandy Zhang, Sunny Wang, Michael Liu, Martin Zhan and Eva Chen, the mentioned and not mentioned.

Ernest Hemingway once said, there is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man, true nobility is being superior to your former self. So welcome to join SZTM and try our best to learn by doing every day and make progress every day.
