596th Meeting Review

In one week, there is one thing that its member can’t miss, that’s the Tuesday weekly meeting of Shenzhen Toastmasters Club. It is worthy to look forward, because it is a happy and learning time in one week. There, interesting experiences and stories can be shared, in the ways of impromptu speeches or prepared speeches. There, you would also get inspirations and encouragements from the useful and practical feedback from experienced and high-level speakers. Meanwhile, the members himself can make the English and public speaking skills practiced and improved. The 596th meeting is this kind of one, joyful and fruitful.

WARM UP

Beginning part makes the atmosphere hot. The warm-up game is a dance program led by the president Eva Chen. Unlike her speech style, which is frank and bold like a man’s tongue, she is becoming a charming lady when she dances. She shakes her body like a dancing princess, hot and sexy.

TME

Toastmaster of the Evening, Nathan Zhang is also an impressive figure. He is so easy-going that lead all the speakers feel relaxed and all the sessions transit smoothly. However, sometimes he pays eye contacts super personal, regularly to some single female members, which really makes others to doubt whether he is married or not.

FACILITATORS

Facilitators in the meeting like Timer, Scarlet He, who takes care of the time-control, Ah-counter, Allen Peng, who pays attentions to member’s unnecessary words or sounds, and Grammarian, Sophie Cai, who introduces a word of day and keep records of grammar usages, All of them have done a good job, which we can see from these facts that we go home in time, we have a general idea who is the king to uses ahs most regular and who uses the word of day at most times.

Facilitators

Table Topic

Table topic part, The theme is EQ, introduced by Sandy Zhang. She may think on this key word lots of times before, as she usually praises others in a special way by saying “ You EQ is high!”. Have you ever got her such compliment before? Just like an open discussion, she makes this session moved by questions like.”EQ or IQ, your prefer?”“What’s the EQ? ““Stories about EQ?” And with the result, as many as 7 speakers are involved in this hot discussion.

PREPARED SPEECH

The prepared speeches are the main part of the meeting. There are 3 speakers, and all of them shares their speech effective.

1st prepared speaker, Sharon Wu keeps her routed speech styles. You know, she is full of emotions, so don’t mention sensitive subjects like losing weight or ‘single dog’ easily. But her inspirations can impresses us a lot. This speech is relating the communications in the daily life, which somebody may face, like Talia is so fond of Selina that she is afraid to tell the same to Selina or invite her for a dinner or shopping. Why we can’t say “hi” and have smooth communications to the persons we admire? A little weird but that’s the common thing. Together with some psychological analysis, she uses vivid stories to illustrate how this issues exist, how the conflicts are there and what’s the solutions to this issue. What a good speech!

2nd prepared speaker, Jane Yang uses the speech tile– “uncertain”. That is usually to describe a situation that a person don’t give the positive confirmation or response, so he says “not sure” or “ uncertain”. Can you make a speech next Tuesday? Uncertain? What an answer! The VPE definitely would feel speechless. “To be or not to be”, “sure or not sure”, that’s the life theme. Say yes to every challenge in your life.

3rd prepared speech “ Do you know your heart” is presented by Scarlett He. As a doctor, she is the best person to have a professional speech like this one. By using visual aids and illustrations on how the heart works and how to protect it, all the audience get a better understanding on our heart. The organ Heart, is really the heart of the life. Professional and useful one!

EVALUATION

Evaluations part, each evaluator has his own characteristics.

Table topics evaluator, Louis Liu makes his evaluation by using classifications. And he even introduces two key points need to follow. One is the speakers should have clear messages with clear structure. Another is the messages should be impressive which the speaker can make full use of rhetoric devices like making comparisons to stand out the major ideas.

Carol Ban gives evaluations by giving a label to the speaker, then she combines the label with the details in the speaker’s performance, and then she shows the encouragements and suggestions. Zoe Zhang, fresh to make evaluations but she has good talents to be a good evaluator, not only because she has a good English accent with clear messages, but she also have lots of interactions with the speaker itself. Eva Chen, tries the innovative way to make evaluations by connecting five letters of H-E-A-R-T to the subject of the speech. Impressive and effective!
