Meeting #607

607th Meeting

DateTuesday, 6 February 2018 (approx.)

SZTM's 607th meeting on 8 February 2018 ran a Table Topics round on new year resolutions, with Sunny Wang, Nathan Zhang, Eva Chen, Michael Liu and others sharing their plans for 2018. Four prepared speeches followed: Louis Liu on poetry, Sandy Zhang urging members to do everything with their lives, Eric Liu on shame, and David King on his resolutions. Koby Sa won best evaluator, Eric Liu took best prepared speaker and best Table Topics speaker, and Joan Zhang and Sharon Wu shared best facilitator.

607th Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

Nathan Zhang not only looked back on his 2017, when he challenged himself to be the president of SZTM and lose 6kg weight, but also set many new-year resolutions such as lead a better SZTM office team, be a more competent father and husband, and become a millionaire!!!

Michael Liu said if he was a billionaire, his overriding action is to do public welfare, bringing more love to the whole world!

The 607th SZTM club meeting kicked off with our talented senior SZTMer Uncle Eric, CC/ALB, warming us up with a simple, yet widely appealing game called Rock-Paper-Scissors.

In addition, our Uncle improved this hand game to a whole body game, and turned this individual game into a teamwork game! After this game we were cheered up and had plenty of passion for the following schedule. And what’s more, Uncle even prepared a gizmo for the final winner!

What a good prepared warm-up master he was!

Taking consideration for the large number of guests visiting us, SZTM club president Nathan Zhang introduced the toastmasters international organization in detail, showing them that we are gathering here to shape our communication and leadership skills.

As a TM routine, General evaluator Samanthan Shen guided her facilitator team: Timer (Vivian Liu), Ah-counter (Sunny Wang) and Grammarian (Eva Chen) to the podium for their role introduction.

Table Topic

Our lovely TTM Joan Zhang sequentially embarked on the table topic session.

Yes! Table Topics, the time for impromptu speaking, is what some relish while others dread.

As the beginning of the new year, 2018 is fittingly enough for today’s table topics.

In 2018, Sunny Wang dedicated herself much more in SZTM, and also set goals for her career development with the reward of long trip in Europe.

Nathan Zhang not only looked back on his 2017, when he challenged himself to be the president of SZTM and lose 6kg weight, but also set many new-year resolutions such as lead a better SZTM office team, be a more competent father and husband, and become a millionaire!!!

The guests were also quite active and they grabbed the chance to practice on the stage. Take Mori for example, she expressed her new year traveling plan in 2018.

Eric Liu, Martin Zhan and Louis Liu wished themselves to meet a different and better themselves.

Eva Chen wished in the near future, she would be more closed with her mother and be able to take care of her family.

Michael Liu said if he was a billionaire, his overriding action is to do public welfare, bringing more love to the whole world!

Prepared

Speech

1

Poetry appreciation
By Louis Liu

As the prepared speakers, the performance of Sandy Zhang and Louis Liu was quite distinguishing. They showed their passion, their enthusiasm to express their determination to polish their life with the great effects.

Sandy Zhang called us for the slogan: nothing is impossible! Do everything with your life!

Louis Liu used an insightful poetry to ignite his inner carving for success!

3

Shame
By Eric Liu

Eric Liu, we called him our lovely Brother Eric, weaved his value statement into the wonderful 7min speech, titled Shame! As a great potential psychologist, Eric Brother articulated his value in his own experience, from shame to acceptance, then acknowledgement and appreciation. In this fast-paced and realistic society, his value delivered is quite instrumental to all the spectators.

4

My New Year's Resolutions
By David King

David King did his second CC10 speech with his new year’s resolutions. He fleshed his speech with well-prepared slices, emphasizing that no matter how brilliant your resolutions, action always weighs much more than any words!

The Evaluation part:

Sophie Cai did her first TTE role, embarking on her evaluation journey. Carol Ban, Michael Liu and Michelle Yang are old-driver on the evaluation road, especially Grandpa Koby. We felt appreciated for their wonderful evaluations!

Guest

Sharing

Finally, it is worthwhile to mention that our new member Roy Fu organized the guest sharing time. We had ten guests visiting us!

And Martin Zhan, back to meeting punctually from his super busy work, acted out a great MOT mater!

As the TME, Sharon neatly organized the whole meeting, and figuratively told her own heart-wrenching story to elicit our deep thinking of self-growth and development.

BEST

In the end of the meeting, Koby Sa won the best evaluator. Eric Brother, out of questions, won the best prepared speaker and best table topic speaker. Joan Zhang and Sharon Wu won the best facilitator! Congratulations to them!!!

Here I would like to end this review with Louis Liu’s sharing:

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference
