Meeting #614

614th Meeting

DateTuesday, 27 March 2018 (approx.)

A review of SZTM's 614th meeting, opened with a game led by VPE Sunny Wang. Toastmaster of the Evening Carol and Table Topics Master Samantha were singled out for their delivery, and three prepared speeches followed: Zoe Zhang on her experience as VPPR, Joan Zhang on staying curious like a "Grandma Liu," and Michelle Yang on leading by example rather than trying to change people. The piece was written by Michael Liu and edited by Zoe Zhang.

614th Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

at least she didn’t transform her husband successfully. But she led her son successfully to have a balanced.

The magic period just came as the plan. See what happened 😀

Starting with a game hosted by a chicken blooded member, Sunny Wang (also knew as the VPE of SZTM), the atmosphere of this weekly event, was becoming hot.

A gesture showed by Sunny in a cute way, like she said “Come on! 66666”. “88888!” echoed by Koby with another gesture (as the photo).

Then the meeting started, with all the facilitators presented in the orders.

The introductions from the energetic President, from a humorous Timer, from an intelligent Ah-counter and from a knowledgeable Grammarian, all were impressive.

Because each part, they did them in their unique way and empowered these parts with attractions.

Obviously, among all facilitators, Toastmaster of the Evening (TME)-Carol and the Table Topics Master (TTM)-Samantha were the shinning stars.

Leading parts with plenty of backgrounds of each speaker, good transitions and clear objectives on each project, the TME Carol did those parts amazingly. And with her smiles, even the delivery was charming.

TTM

As for TTM Samantha, she made the topics and questions by using an innovative way, “seeing pictures and then tell stories or feelings”.

This way was easy-approached and convenient to indicate the speakers to get connections and hints.

Unprepared speeches were mainly challenging the speaker’s ability of quick thinking and fast responses. While for those prepared speeches, the speakers would face some other challenges and discuss some things more deep.

1 V P P RBy Zoe Zhang

First prepared speaker, Zoeshared her feelings and the experience of being a VPPR. It took innovations and inspirations to make fantastic flyers or posts, but it was worthwhile, especially when the works were appreciated.

2 To Be a“Grandma Liu”By Joan Zhang

Second speaker for prepared speech, Joantalked a belief that everybody should have, the curiosity towards life. She inspired everybody to recheck himself by using her overseas traveling experience.

How can we become insensitive and showed no curiosities and concerns to those fresh things? If that, to be Grandma Liu!

3 Don‘t TransformBut LeadBy Michelle Yang

Third speech was made by Michelle. This speech was also from the life experience. And the main points were, man was hard to be transformed or changed. And we can learn that from her joke, at least she didn’t transform her husband successfully. But she led her son successfully to have a balanced.

So demonstration indirectly, instead of transformation directly, can be a good way for a better change.

Evaluators including table topics evaluator, individual evaluators and general evaluator, did their job based on the speaker’s performances.

They categorized some points as good parts. Meanwhile, they also mentioned some points that the speakers can make improve.

So generally speaking, all of their feedbacks were practical and helpful.
