Meeting #621

621st Meeting

DateTuesday, 15 May 2018

A review of SZTM's 621st meeting, marked by the news that Toastmaster of the Evening Eva Chen would soon be leaving the club for a new life and career in Shanghai. Table Topics Master Sharon ran a love-themed session in which, by the reviewer's count, the first five speakers were all men. Three prepared speeches followed: Joan Zhang's Pathways icebreaker "Shenzhen is A Big Tree," April Luo's "Inevitable Growing Pain," and Michael Liu's "Money Management."

621st Meeting

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

We still cannot believe it is true that she will leave us all, very soon. She will be living in Shanghai for her better career and her family.

Maybe, Chinese single dogs are so shy to talk about romantic love, Chinese married men are so talkative about their family love.

Michael Liu just came back from an adventure business trip form India. We were expected to be bombed with the special yet funny anecdotes from him. However, in his stories, India is a perfect world, was he too lucky?

Once again, our gorgeous dancer, also our crazy member - Eva Chen! She led us together with a warm up dancing, with her buddies Carol Ban and Roy Fu. (But PANAMA again……).

Our TME, she again, our shining star, Eva Chen. We still cannot believe it is true that she will leave us all, very soon. She will be living in Shanghai for her better career and her family.

No matter how reluctant for us, we will cherish every moment sharing with her, we will send our best wishes to her.

Warmly welcome Christine Zhong to be our General Evaluator today. She and her facilitators team: Helen Lin as timer, Roy Fu as Ah counter, Vivian Liu as grammarian.

They set up the framework of our facilitation, guaranteed our high quality meeting as always.

Long time no see, my mentor Sharon. She hosted our table topic session tonight, a great topic about love. (Maybe Sharon have a lot sweet moments recently, she is going to share with all of us?).

❤ LOVE ❤

It’s weird that the first 5 table topic speakers are men, they are Roy Fu, Nathan Zhang, Adrian Wong, Max Ye and Michael Liu. I don’t know if it is also weird that only 1 out of 5 them is single. Adrian Wong, who is a Canadian born Chinese, other 4 guys are married men. Maybe, Chinese single dogs are so shy to talk about romantic love, Chinese married men are so talkative about their family love.

Anyway, what a wonderful table topic session. Thank you Sharon!

If the table topic speech is to test your impromptu ability, then the prepared speech must be the test of all the capabilities that you have.

1 Shenzhen is A Big TreeBy Joan Zhang

Joan Zhang, she was the first one in our club to challenge the pathway. Her Pathway-CC1 (icebreaker) topic is “Shenzhen is A Big Tree”.

In her speech, she shared her memory about Shenzhen when the first time she came here, and how this impression changed.

Congratulations to Joan, she had successfully finished her Pathway-CC1.

2 InevitableGrowing Pain

By April Luo

April Luo, her CC3 (get to the point) speech topic is “Inevitable Growing Pain”. She was a English teacher, maybe that’s the reason why she was so good at public speech.

She showed her story about the inevitable pain during growing. Her interactive style helping her speech kept touching with all the audience.

3 Money ManagementBy Michael Liu

Michael Liu, his Adv14.4 (the touching story) speech topic is “Money Management”.

It’s amazing for his good combination of vivid PPT and impressive story. What a good lesson about money management.

After Rain Ji hosted the guest sharing time, our breaking time helping we social each other between members and guests.

Back to our meeting, here came to our evaluation part. Dudu Tang was our table topic evaluation. Carol Ban, Zoe Zhang, Adrian Wong, they are individual evaluators for our prepared speech speakers.

As always, our evaluators did a great job as a mirror to every speakers as well as table topic masters.

What they give is not only the shining points but also some constructive suggestions. Thank you our evaluators.

After the final facilitators report, the final boss come to the stage. Let’s welcome Christine Zhong come to our club to be our General Evaluator tonight. She was so elegant.

She showed us all what a good example general evaluation should be like.

She encouraged and thanked all the meeting participants, she also give very good advices to all those had not been evaluated.

❤Above were the moments for the 615th meeting❤

621st meeting successfully. Shenzhen is really a big tree. A big tree, big enough for all kinds of birds, insects, leaves, flowers, all of us either living settling or having a short break then leaving.

No matter what, this is a big tree, whoever you are, you come to Shenzhen, and you are a Shenzhener.
