639th Meeting
A review of SZTM's 639th meeting, written by Jane Liang. Table Topics ran on the theme of sport, with speakers including Tangtang on David Beckham, Paenery on Liu Xiang, and Christy on badminton. Four prepared speeches followed, among them Jane's own icebreaker "Nice to meet you," which won best speaker, and Max Ye's "Conquer the stage," a CC4 speech on overcoming anxiety on stage.

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:
Hardy was always volunteer to try the table topic section, good job. Dancing was a good way to get close to the beautiful girls. But he was embarrassed because he fell from the stage once in front of crowded audience.
Busy Joan, the VPE, tried her every effort to fix the each unexpected accidents——members who took the role but failed to come; computer went wrong; agenda printed; meeting arrangement; and she was one of the individual evaluator as well.
She told us three stories about the encouragement from her mother when she were upset and fell down. From vivian’s speech, we can feel the deep infection between her mother and vivian. It was touching.

SPORTFish
the new members for SZTM, but an old friend of Toastmaster in Wuhan. He held the table topic section in which theme was sport.
1-TangTang-Football. He was a huge fan of David Beckham, who was handsome, skilled at football, and most importantly, a good father for two girls.
2-Paenery-Liuxiang. She regarded him as a national hero for he never gave up even fell down in 2012 London Olympic Games. Liu ‘s story encouraged her to stand on the stage even though she English was poor.(What a lovely girl and your English wasn’t poor. Be confident and keep practicing, you can certainly speak fluent English.)
3-Wendy-Muscle man. She talked about the connection with sport. Chasing the bus on the way to work was the daily sport; Having go to the gym for one year, but result in higher weight; finally she found that walking the dog was the most suitable way and she enjoys most. Everyone has their own alternative in sport.
4-Hardy-Dacing. Hardy was always volunteer to try the table topic section, good job. Dancing was a good way to get close to the beautiful girls. But he was embarrassed because he fell from the stage once in front of crowded audience.

Prepared speech.
Jane - Nice to meet you-(ice break speech)

With the clear structure and natural performance, she made a brief self-introduction about her hometown, her job and her dream. Jane loves photography and showed us the beautiful pictures she took in Shennan Avenue in April. Next she recalled her experience in running in the marathon. At last, she linked the marathon with the toastmaster to echo with the title Nice to meet you.

Evaluator

Joan lifted up several questions about Jane’s speech to verify whether the audience still remember the content. The answer was yes. And Jane’s performance was more than an ice breaker as she was so relax and natural on the stage with clear expression and body language. It’s advisable for Jane to move from right to left, from front to back. Moreover, have more eye contacts with the audience. Well done on ice break speech.
Congratulations to Jane to be honored the best speaker in the ice break speech. You did a great job and looking forward to your speech next time.

Lilian - Why toastmaster-CC10

She told us why she would choose SZTM when she was such a shy and dis-confident girl at first. Now she had made great progress along the way in SZTM. As one the SZTM 25th anniversary meeting organizers, she promoted the activity to the audience over and over again.
Evaluator Strong

Strong was touched and inspired by Lilian’s speech. She did a good job in communication with the audience-movement、eye contact, and interaction. But in his opinion, the passage failed to reach the requirement of organization of a speech. Actually, we can vary the vocal tunes to express different points.
Lilian lifted up 3 questions about why she come to SZTM,why she would join 15th anniversary, why she would be the SZTM officer. But her answers was not clear enough.
Speaker Vivian

She told us three stories about the encouragement from her mother when she were upset and fell down.
Evaluator Michelle

From vivian’s speech, we can feel the deep infection between her mother and vivian. It was touching. And vivian ‘s natural body language made the speech more vividly. It would be better if the conclusion enriched to more connection with the theme”lifelong mentor”.
Speaker MaxMax YE -conquer the stage-CC42

Max demonstrated 4 methods of conquering the stage
1. overcome the anxiety;
2. lower the expectation;
3. be confidence;
4. do training a lot in a short time
Evaluator Tangtang

Beginning with the questions and then answered it individually with 4 points——the structure was clear. And his body language was natural and he always smiles, letting us feel free and enjoyable. Tangtang also pointed out that when you explained different ideas, you can delivered one point in left side, the other
General evaluation Part

Strong was as as usual and commented the facilitators respectively with humour i.
TME, Michael. Michael had his style in speaking English, telling the story combined his understandings and emotions. Strong advised that he’d better remember the agenda and every time he welcomed the next one on the stage, please named it clearly so that the audience can know which part was going on.
Timer, Eduard. He was responsible for keeping the meeting go in time and what a strict timer. good job.
Ahcounter, Wendy, from EOE, introduced by Tangtang. She carried without note and reported clearly. Moreover, she gave 3tips on how to reduce the unnecessary words in speech+speak slowly; rexlaxed with eye contact; pause for a while. She deserved to be titled as the Best Facilitator

GST, Link. Warmly welcomed 18 guests to our meeting. Eduard limited 30s strictly for each guest, for 18 times in total. As a GST, he should stand in front of the guests so that they could be released in introducing themselves.
Table topic evaluation Part

Wow, I really enjoyed listening the evaluation by Wilson Liao because he illustrated in a clear structure and suggested simple but inspiring solutions.
He began with the definition of a good TTM,including easy to understandable topic, random but challenging topic, concluded the finished one and welcomed the next one. Fish did a good job.
Then he put forward that a good story teller should connect the story with the topic, adding with emotions. So Tangtang and Paenery did well in this part.
Besides he praised the good one, as the imperfect ones, he figured the problems and gave suggestions on them. What a great teacher.

see you next Tuseday. wishing all of you have a good time.!!!!!
