Meeting #829

Love and food

DateTuesday, 24 May 2022

SZTM's 829th meeting review, a packed session combining prepared speeches, a Table Topics round on Love and Food, a birthday party, and an award presentation. Eleven ran a business simulation letting the audience live through a CEO's first week, ice breaker speaker Vizier described his path to becoming a surgical doctor, and ice breaker speaker Anna introduced herself as a mother from Sichuan. During Table Topics, Jason told a story about food and love that ended in a breakup with his ex-fiancee, and the meeting closed with a birthday celebration for Zoe, Tao, Stella, and Catty, plus the club receiving the President's Distinguished Club Award for 2020 to 2021.

Prepared speeches

Eleven spoke on “1st Day CEO” (PM 5.1 Prepare to Speak Professionally). Vizier spoke on “About myself and the motivation to join Toastmaster family” (1). Anna spoke on “Me” (level 1).

From the group chat

“I m really wondering where you guys learned English and why so excellent? everybody is my teacher[转圈][跳跳][转圈][跳跳]”

“如:That’s the company I love working with. 这里的work with sth, 介词小词就用得很妙,体现了他扎实的语言基本功。”

“Eleven还说I have no clue about sth(that + 从句),这里其实就是I donnot know的另外表达。用得让人眼前一亮。[强]”

The club posted its own write-up that week. Some of what it said, in the words it used:

Jason shared a story about food and love with us in which the other one was his fiancée. But in the end, they broke up.

IE2 Angie was impressed by Vizier’s energy on the stage. She thought Vizier looks more like a PE teacher than a doctor.

Laugh-counter Mike, first time to do the job, did an amazing detailed count of all the laughter. In total we’ve laughed over 70 times this meeting.

Meeting Review

Prepared SpeakerEleven

First prepared speech was Eleven’s business simulation exercise. He not only introduced his journey of becoming a CEO but also let all the audience experience the first week of CEO during his workshop.

IE1 Tao commented that he was impressed by how a workshop could also be a story and all the audience took part in completing the story together with the speaker.

Very impressive!

Table TopicLove & Food

Sampson used vivid body language to demonstrate a speech, so that the guests could be familiar with the table topic rules.

Jason shared a story about food and love with us in which the other one was his fiancée. But in the end, they broke up.

Damon tried to pitch a business idea of selling food (right, Damon?)

Lily thought only in a cozy dating restaurant, the lovers could feel comfortable.

The reason why Jill prepares her own dinner is to keep heathy.

TTE Brent was very sharp in the evaluation. One of his honest feedback was that Jason should tell us more details about his ex-fiancée.

Guest SharingBirthday Pary

GST was hosted by our new member, Palette, who showed warm welcome to all the guests of the meeting.

Monthly birthday party was held to cerebrate Zoe, Tao, Stella, and Catty’s birthday in May.

Prepared SpeakerVizier

The ice breaker speaker, Vizier, introduced the journey of his heart about how to become a surgical doctor.

IE2 Angie was impressed by Vizier’s energy on the stage. She thought Vizier looks more like a PE teacher than a doctor.

Prepared SpeakerAnna

Second ice breaker speaker, Anna, had a short and punchy title: ME. She introduced herself as a mom with a lovely kid from Sichuan province. She also shared her aspiring goal of enriching her own life by adding hobbies on top of taking care of her kid.

IE3 Jason adopted his mature hark master skills to evaluate Anna. He asked audience a series of questions about Anna’s speech, which made the meeting full of laughter.

Facilitator Team

TME Olivia connected different secitons of the meeting so smoothly. I just can’t help to say that she is getting more and more gorgeous!

Laugh-counter Mike, first time to do the job, did an amazing detailed count of all the laughter. In total we’ve laughed over 70 times this meeting. In the moment of truth, Mike said that everyone should not be afraid of the unfamiliar roles. Just do it!

Grammarian Anson gave a brief and clear report in which she shared some brief yet cute golden sentences and words.

Timer Simon, the Grammarian in the SZTM family, spoke with an English accent.

Hark master Min, a powerful lady, introduced a new game in the hark master session by numbering the questions and audience could choose, adding one more layer of interaction in her session.

The General Evaluator Yannas, not a surprise, brought us the most dramatic GE report.

Before the end of the meeting, IPP Stella & IPPP Tao showed the President Distinguished Club Award ribbon for 2020 – 2021 to the club. Thanks to all officer teams and all members participation to our club meetings for us to receive such an honor!

With 18 years of history, SZTM is a big and warm family that everyone loves it. No matter who you are, where you are from, SZTM always welcome you.

See you next week!
