A Room Made for Poetry

Meeting 901 began before anyone reached the lectern. After noise concerns prompted a last-minute move to a more spacious venue, members arrived early to clear tables, carry luggage, and make the new room work. “Let’s enjoy an evening of plum wine and poetry, and let our souls get drunk, while our minds stay sober!” set the mood perfectly. The word of the day, “poetic,” gave everyone a small lens through which to notice the evening.

From Uncertainty to Insight

The prepared-speech lineup moved through identity, uncertainty, friendship, and an eye-surgery experience. “Embrace uncertainty” felt especially at home beside the afternoon’s real uncertainty: when a speaker had to withdraw at the last minute, the group quickly proposed a backup—and even an open-mic poetry session where members could share a favorite poem and explain its influence. That quick pivot turned a scheduling problem into another invitation to find meaning in ordinary life.

A Gentle, Steady Connection

After the meeting, the chat focused on the calm force of one speech and its delivery: “虽然很多单词听不懂,但我还是好喜欢…很舒服” (“I didn’t understand many words, but I still loved it…so comfortable”), followed by “温柔的坚定” (“gentle firmness”). Others described the club as a place of “connection” and inspiration. By the end, the spacious room, the welcoming of a new member, and plans for next week’s election barbecue all felt like extensions of the same theme: poetry is often created together.
