Top News Night

Meeting 918 landed on a “Top News” theme with the word of the day sensational. Originally four speakers were scheduled, but Eleven had to drop out two days before due to a fever, bringing the lineup down to three. Stella generously gave her speaker slot to Katie Pan for division contest rehearsal, noting that Katie is a senior speaker everyone could learn from.

Three Speeches

Katie Pan delivered “Brake,” a contest-level speech rehearsed ahead of the upcoming division contest. Becky spoke on “Don’t be anxious,” exploring humor as a communication tool. Sally tackled “Job Burnout,” examining different communication styles through her Mentoring Series project.

Behind the Scenes

The venue had just installed new carpet, and the wet glue meant no food was allowed inside. Stella also stepped in as Grammarian after noticing the role was unfilled just hours before the meeting. Post-meeting feedback highlighted that speakers were interrupted several times by people moving around:

“I noticed today that the prepared speaker was interrupted many times by people moving around during the speech, which may affect the effectiveness of the speech. Please try not to move around when the meeting is on.”
