The Great AI Debate

Meeting 929 traded the usual speech format for a debate game. The motion: will AI enhance or crush human possibilities? Eight debaters split into two teams argued it out, with Brownie hosting and Chris evaluating. The affirmative side won by audience vote.

The topic was tweaked just before the meeting from “enhance or crush” to “will or will not enhance human possibilities,” a subtle but important shift that shaped the arguments.

Preparation Pays Off

congrats to the affirmative team to be so prepared with stats and logics. I’m really impressed by Jing Jing too - so firm and clear reasoning.

I also want to vote for jingjing. Her opening was well prepared, and also react very quick and positive to question the other side in grand fire session

The affirmative team’s edge came from preparation that started the previous Saturday, days before the Tuesday meeting.

Beyond the Debate

Debate aside - I do feel like the development of AI does need a bit more con side of voice. To do the check and balance and make sure that it’s developing to a direction that serve us the favor.

This was also the first meeting run by the new 2024H2 officer team. After the debate, Emma used AI to generate stylized portraits for each debater, sparking a lively round of laughter in the group chat.
