The Workshop

Poornima led a 30-minute workshop titled “Find YOUR Story,” exploring why we tell stories, how to find your story, and how to laugh at yourself. She shared how she uses storytelling to make sense of her life and her mistakes, drawing on the idea that powerful personal stories emerge when we probe wounds in our heart.

Real life doesn’t always fit this structure, and that is ok. But storytelling is like cooking. We can combine the raw ingredients in interesting ways.

Two Speeches

Lily delivered her Icebreaker, “Lily’s last ten years,” tracing a decade of adventures and risks. Ivy gave her second speech, “I do not need it any more,” recalling childhood ambitions and the desire to be taken seriously.

lines ‘I want to sit on that table and speak big things’ — I can picture her in a cloud of smoke, sitting on a table with piles of 瓜子 peels and tangerines — blowing rings of smoke up into the air as her mom or aunts served delicacies.

Highlights

Joan, serving as Hark Master for the first time, creatively misunderstood the role and interviewed speakers instead. The club voted her best facilitator anyway. Ivy was also a first-timer as Meeting Manager, with DC guiding her through the evening. Janice joined as a new dual member of both Tree Toastmasters and SZTM.
