Flu season, but the show goes on

January brought a wave of flu across Shenzhen. In the group chat before the meeting, one member wrote “我感觉自己应该是中了最近的新冠甲流,” followed quickly by “我也感染了，咳嗽要咳死的感觉。鼻塞” and yet another “+1.” Max, originally assigned as Individual Evaluator, had to drop out with a fever; Eric Liu stepped in to cover the role. Despite the absences, a full house showed up for a Tuesday evening themed around Emotions.

Prepared speeches

Tao’s session was not a regular speech but a 20-minute workshop on using AI to boost personal productivity. The talk sparked a lively comparison of tools: “kimi VS ChatGPT” came up during the discussion, and someone added “补充一个 learning with AI.” The next day, Max, still recovering at home, offered a thoughtful reflection: “AI 可以帮你处理问题，但不能帮你提出问题，不能帮你决定什么更有价值，也不能代替你创造和发现新的可能.”

Amy delivered “The Sweet Truth — Why Dessert Always Wins,” her third speech at the club. Becky followed with “How to learn?” on voice variety (Pathways Level 3.5).

Table topics and after-meeting

Stella ran the Table Topics session on the theme of Emotions, with six speakers taking the stage: Becky, Linna, Noah, Anthena, King, and Eric.

After the formal meeting, Brownie shared a poem in the group chat that tied the evening’s two threads together, AI and emotions:

In circuits deep, emotions reside, AI’s mind both vast and wide. Confident strides in data’s dance, Yet peace it seeks, to find its chance.

Candy, who had served as SAA and led the warmup game, also recorded the entire meeting on video: “Video 放群里了 请自取哈.” An English teacher named Austin, who worked in the same building, noticed the meeting in progress and walked in as a guest. He later reached out about joining the club.

Meanwhile, burgers had fueled the evening: “13 一个 kfc 汉堡 ..let me know if u need one.”
