A 520 evening in pink

May 20th is 520, China’s internet Valentine’s Day, and the club leaned all the way in. Christy, stepping in as Table Topics Master on short notice, decorated the venue with pink bubbles. The next morning someone posted a photo with the caption: “用心的 Christy 布置的粉红泡泡 so romantic.”

Christy had taken over the TTM role after Ivy tested positive for COVID two days before the meeting. Ivy’s message to the group was gracious: “Due to my recent COVID-19 positivity, I regret to cancel my scheduled speech and temporarily adjust the meeting topic. Thanks to Chris for being the TTM.”

Prepared speeches

Three speakers took the stage, all on the theme of love. David opened with “Practical Ways to Maintain a Loving Relationship,” drawing a golden quote from the evening. As one member recalled afterward: “Mayme 今天的金句：‘凡是过往，皆为序章’.”

Brownie delivered “Navigating Through the Storm,” a speech that impressed listeners with its precise and vivid word choices. One member asked in the group chat: “可否 share 你的 draft？发现你的用词真的很精准很高级，像 drizzle downpour 这样的词汇真的很美.” Brownie later revealed the draft had been polished with AI assistance.

Susie rounded out the evening with “The Story Of Love,” and also handled Secretary duties for the meeting.

Little touches

The meeting included a seed bookmark giveaway. Afterward, someone asked in the group: “就想问到底谁中了我们的种子书签.” Edwin’s photos from the evening came out blurry, which he defended with characteristic humor: “520 朦胧的美.”
