Prepared speeches

Becky’s “Views On Marriage” got the room talking. The after-meeting chat spiraled into marriage stories: “下次把你家那口子叫来 咱也闹个洞房热闹热闹,” and someone proposed a marriage-themed Table Topics session. The topic clearly struck a chord. The next day, Stella added a footnote: “S-MART 昨晚那对新人就是去年在俱乐部认识的,8 月就要举办婚礼啦。Toastmasters, where leaders are made, where couples are made.”

Mayme delivered “Broken English,” and Brent closed the prepared speeches with “Review of My Objectives in SZTM,” a longer 12-to-15-minute reflection on his journey in the club.

Table Topics: Fathers

David ran the Table Topics session around the Father’s Day theme. His opening set a reflective tone: “Today we’re going to be very honest with ourselves and try to think about our own experience with our fathers. And we’re gonna try to extract some good qualities of our fathers and try to avoid some mistakes our fathers have made.” The session invited genuine sharing. Tracy wrote afterwards: “In fact I like to talk with my father. Feel relaxed. My mom is a bit vulnerable, and sometimes she mentions how much she has sacrificed for the family and us. This puts pressure on me, making me feel like I owe her.”

A new role, and an old friend

This meeting marked the debut of the On-Camera Master role, replacing Ah Counter (whose duties were folded into the Grammarian). Anna took on the new role, and the feedback was positive. Brownie wrote: “It is great to have on cameras master, reminding us to keep smile, to straight our back while standing on the stage.”

The other highlight was Min’s return. When Anna announced it during the meeting, the chat lit up with welcome messages. Min replied simply: “Thank u all I never left, I have always been there for u.” New member Lori also stepped up for her first evaluation role, volunteering as Speech Evaluator 3.

David wrapped up the evening with a message to the group: “Thank you to all the members who participated tonight’s meeting. I really felt that the meeting quality has improved. Everyone invested not only time but also heart into whatever their roles were.”
