Dreamland (梦境)
Prepared speeches
Three speakers took the stage. Lori opened with “Breathe: A Journey from Chaos to Calm,” sharing her personal story of finding mindful recovery. Linna followed with “Hi Mentor,” reflecting on the impact of having a mentor in her Toastmasters journey. David closed with “Travel Fosters New Perspective,” drawing on his travel experiences to illustrate how new places reshape how we think. After the meeting, the consensus was clear: “这期 ppt 内容都很赞.”
Table Topics in the dark
Brownie turned the Dreamland theme into a sensory experience. She brought a star projector lamp (a 15 RMB find from Xianyu) and switched off the lights for the entire Table Topics session. Speakers shared their night-time dreams in a room full of projected stars. “Share your dream, the atmosphere is so magical and romantic,” one member wrote during the session. Someone else summed up the whole evening in four words: “今晚做了个梦.”
The projector was meant for a smaller space. “在家里试验的效果,就会议室太大了,只能在角落闪,” Brownie admitted. But the mood won everyone over: “但是氛围好好呀,小伙伴说体验感好好.” The trade-off between lighting and photography was real, though: “Table topic 关灯环节太考验拍照了.”
Behind the scenes
The meeting had its share of last-minute reshuffling. Becky had to drop out of Table Topic Evaluation due to overtime that afternoon, and a friend from Shantou Toastmasters Club stepped in as a replacement. Emma hosted the MOT segment, which featured the club’s first mentorship program cohort sharing their interview experiences and guest sharing. As one member put it before the meeting even started: “现在开会就是我摸鱼的理由.”
And for those whose dreams were not quite so romantic: “你们梦咋这么浪漫?俺梦中经常被追杀、乱狂奔、坠深渊、上下乱飞,惊醒…”
