Warm-up and Table Topics

David kicked off the evening with a warm-up game before the formal session. “今天 David 带来的小游戏也好有意思,简单易行又很 warm up,” one member noted afterward. Eureka then ran Table Topics with a GeoGuessr twist: members were shown street-view images and asked to guess locations or pick out visual details, then improvise speeches based on what they saw. She had shared a GeoGuessr game link in the group days before to set the mood.

Prepared speeches

Brownie delivered “the 1000th,” a speech about turning the club’s upcoming milestone meeting into something worth remembering. Originally scheduled for the first half, her speech was moved to the second half. She acknowledged the time pressure afterward: “确实,我下来也和我的 IE 说,上半部分时间没控制好.” The audience responded warmly. One member captured the moment: “One of today’s golden sentences: Brownia killed two birds with one stone.” Another added: “Let’s turn 1000 from a number to a story we will like to recall in the future.”

Brownie also earned a new nickname that evening. Anna called her “Teacher Brownia,” and Brownie played along: “I got a new name… Russia one.”

Mayme’s speech “Happiness ≠ Joy” explored the distinction between the two concepts. The idea stuck: “more desire, more trouble! keep this in mind from now on,” Anna wrote after the meeting.

Confucius and ghost stories

Edwin, as TME, wove classical Chinese wisdom into the evening. He quoted from the Analerta: “子不语怪、力、乱、神.” David praised his touch: “Edwin 今天引用的句子充满了智慧,概括了儒家思想关于说话的指导性原则;我个人很喜欢.”

The evening’s most memorable Table Topics moment came from Maecenas, who told a story about four ghosts playing mahjong. Edwin recalled it as set in Thailand, but Anna quickly corrected: “#not Thailand but Chongqing.”

After the meeting

David summed up the night: “As always, we had an 一颗赛艇 evening. The speech, evaluation, and facilitation qualities have had a noticeable improvement.” Meanwhile in the meeting group chat, members spotted that Christy and Lori had shown up in matching outfits: “所以 Christy 和 Lori 是穿了同一件衣服?”
