Meeting 999

The 999th meeting fell on November 11, and the number itself carried a kind of magic. Linna noticed it first: “今天的数字好特别，Wish a lucky day.” Stella added: “长长久久.”

It was also Singles’ Day, but the club had its own celebration in mind. Christy, as Table Topics Master, had designed a special game: a finger-counting “Never Have I Ever” session that the group chat called a “掰头 battle.” Tao teased it that morning: “据说今晚的 TTM 会很不一样 期待 ing.”

Prepared speeches

Three speakers took the stage. Tao opened with “Speak Up, Kindly,” exploring communication styles. Susie followed with her Icebreaker, “Closing an Open Loop,” and brought a box of Taiwanese pineapple cakes to share with the club: “赞助一盒台湾凤梨酥.”

Kristin delivered her second project, comparing pitch-style and consultative-style sales. She had been encouraged in the group chat before the meeting: “报名就是督促自己有强度地练习，英语又不是数学，只要花时间肯定能提高” and “希望早日见到，你不拿稿纸也能讲出来.”

Behind the scenes

The meeting almost didn’t come together smoothly. Eureka had to drop out of the Timer role the night before: “甲流了 还是不去传播病毒了.” Linna stepped in on the day itself when her dinner plans fell through: “可以，刚好今晚饭局临时取消了.” Meanwhile, Tao was scrambling to prepare on his iPad, updating the agenda and publishing the voting form: “手忙脚乱。。” He concluded: “已经是这台 iPad 的极限了，办公还是得电脑.” When the printer at his office was also off limits (“公司政策，我今天不能够在公司打印了”), Kristin came to the rescue and printed 15 copies of the agenda.
