A Sunday walking up the Dakang valley at Yuanshan, the club’s October outing that year.

The meeting time was half past nine. The early arrivals were already at the start of the stream; the last of them got through the park gate at ten to eleven. The group ended up split in two for the whole day, an advance party and a rear party, which the write-up recorded without much sympathy.

The account of it opened by asking who says Toastmasters people only make speeches, and answered with the day’s evidence: people who climb hills and cross water, people who are good at Werewolf, and one member who would not let go of the microphone the entire way there.

Written up in Chinese and English, because that is how the club writes about itself.
