Brent, a longtime SZTM member, discusses why he stays in the club for the English practice and the members who inspire him, and reflects on why some members eventually leave.

Brent

Q1: Why did you join SZTM? what did you want to achieve?

Brent: Talking to people or having lots of chances to speak in English. Because I found my spoken English became worse, so I should find a club to practice English. Then, I visited some clubs and chose SZTM finally. The reason I chose it:(1) location was convenient (2) the atmosphere is ok (3)A good club for me to speak English.

Q2: Whyis SZTM so attractive to you that you stayed with the club for a long time?

Brent: (1) some active members are always inspiring me to contribute. They themselves do that and I am influenced to do it, too.

(2) some active members are trying to grab any chance to deliver a speech or practice. I can see their progress, that is amazing.

Q3: How long will you stay in SZTM inthe future?

Brent: At least for the next year, I will stay in the club. Some reasons I mentioned that will attract me to stay in SZTM for a long time. But I will also consider leaving the club when it loses the ability to attract members to support the club. It depends on its future state.

Q4: why did some members leave the SZTM?

Brent: (1) some members immigrated to Shenzhen to make money or get a job opportunity. When they left the city, they would leave the club.

(2) some members wanted to change to another club to find something new in their life.

Some new members come, and some old members go. It is usual for a club. Don’t regret when someone leaves, try to support the club to attract new members.

Q5: how to contribute to SZTM as a member?

Brent: Take the meeting roles as much as you can and deliver speeches.

Q6: What are some of the concerns about the current performance and future of SZTM and how can those concerns be addressed?

Brent: the biggest concern is that we do not have enough active members to take the roles very quickly.

The solution:(1) support the junior members. For those who have a positive, active attitude but are not good in English, try to help them and support them to progress. For those who are not too eager, try to figure out the reason and solve some problems. Strengthen the relationship between mentors and mentees. When going through a possible bad time, the best thing we could do is to try to improve members quickly so that they can take any role and support the club.

(2) For our club, to get even stronger and better, we also need to

develop new members.

Rocklyn: You have a lot of thoughts about this! Very amazing!

Brent: Just in case of the possible hard time. The collision of different ideas can produce a better approach!

Brent

This guy has his own thinking of what he wants in this club、what he will do in this club. He is very satisfied what he has achieved in this club. He does not have so much ambition. The smart guy who is always giving a helping hand to support others.
